SFB1399 Research group leader receives Professorship for Molecular Head and Neck Oncology at Cologne University Hospital

Prof. Dr. Julie George has accepted the call for a new W2 professorship for Molecular Head and Neck Oncology at the Medical Faculty of the University Hospital of Cologne as of March 1, 2021. Prof. George is a group leader at the Department of Translational Genomics and project leader of subproject C01 of the SFB1399.

The focus of her research is to understand the biological processes of cancer and to study the evolutionary adaption of cancer to therapies. Specifically, her research focuses on the pathogenesis and evolution of cancer under chemotherapy and immunotherapy. Her research includes large-scale genomic and molecular profiling studies of human patient tumors in order to characterize the molecular mechanisms which govern cancer growth, progression and therapy resistance.

Prof. George studied Molecular Life Science at the Medical University of Lübeck from 2002 to 2007. She completed her PhD at the Ruprecht Karl University of Heidelberg. Since 2011, she has been working first as postdoctoral researcher and later as a research group leader at the Department of Translational Genomics, University of Cologne.
